Baronial awards
The baron and baroness of Aarnimetsä have the right to give out Aarnimetsä's own baronial awards. These awards are: membership in any of our four orders and marshlights of eight different colors.
Katkenneen kynän ritarikunta (Order of the Broken Pen)
This award is presented to those, who further the cause of the barony beyond expectations and duty. The traditional tasks of this order are to keep the Aarnimetsä chronicles up to date, to advice the baron and the baroness and to support the officers. The symbol of this order is a broken (feather) pen.
Rautahirven ritarikunta (Order of the Iron Moose)
This order is presented to those merited in the martial arts. That includes all disciplines in the marshal's domain, i.e. fencing as well as rattan fighting. The symbol of this order is a bronze wolf's head.
Hopeisen solmun ritarikunta (Order of the Silver Knot)
This order is presented to those who are accomplished in arts and sciences. The symbol of the order is a silver knot.
Kultaisen mehiläisen ritarikunta (Order of the Golden Bee)
This order is presented to those who serve their barony with exemplary industriousness and good manners. The symbol of the order is an armband in gold or silver.
Virvaliekki (Marshlight)
Marshlights come in different color, each for certan type of merits. The old symbol for marshlight was a black triangle, edged with pearls, where the marshlights were marked with little bows. The newer symbol for marshlight is a black-and-white tabletwoven band, edged with fingerloop braids in the given color(s).
- Gray: service in office
- Yellow: reason chosen by the baron and baroness
- Black: for reasons known only to the giver and the recipient
- Red: performing arts
- Purple: toiling while others are having fun
- Blue: martial arts
- White: chivalry (exemplary, polite behaviour)
- Green: arts and sciences
